BrooklynVegan Publishes Another Yes Photo

The late Chris Squire of Yes

In a month that already saw the passing of the legendary Ornette Coleman, June now has taken prog rock legend Chris Squire the only member of Yes to play on all of their studio albums. Yes was the fifth band I ever photographed back on November 28, 1971 when they were the middle band that included the opener, Mahavishnu Orchestra who were on tour for “Inner Mounting Flame” and headliner The Kinks who were touring for “Muswell Hillbillies”. I ended up seeing Yes several times in the 70’s and was fortunate enough to see and photograph them again in 2013.  My favorite Yes moment was seeing them perform “Heart Of The Sunrise” on the “Fragile” tour at NYC’s Academy of Music on February 19, 1972. Chris Squire was dressed in all white with mid-thigh boots and he and Jon Anderson absolutely blew the ceiling off the venue peforming that track while a couple of feet of snow came down in a blizzard outside. Yes’ music was a cornerstone in the formation of my musical tastes. While I drifted away from them after “Tales of Topographic Oceans”, those early albums, especially “Yes Album”, “Fragile” and “Close To The Edge” will always remain among my favorite albums of all time. RIP Chris and thanks for the great music and memories!

BrooklynVegan has published another one of my Yes photos from August 4, 2013 at Yestival at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ. See the article and photos here.
